National strike in Belgium 13 February: all flights cancelled at Brussels Zaventum and Charleroi
These are your rights as a passenger.
A nationwide strike will take place in Belgium on Thursday 13 February. Earlier it was announced that three quarters of all flights would be cancelled on Thursday. Now it has been confirmed that there will be no passenger flights.
Airlines canceling flights en masse
These flights are being cancelled as a result of the nationwide demonstration by the trade unions in Brussels against some of the plans of the new federal government. As a result, a large number of check-in and security staff are on strike, affecting flight operations.
Airlines will contact passengers directly. They are asked not to come to the airport.
Some scheduled flights will also be cancelled. Please check airline websites for the latest information.
Right to compensation National strike Belgium?
Compensation is normally paid by the airline, as they are responsible for cancellations and delays that are within their control. However, strikes by airport staff are not within their control, so you are not entitled to compensation.
What you are entitled to if your flight is cancelled is care. Think of food and drink and, if necessary, hotel accommodation. You are also entitled to have the airline offer you a replacement flight or refund your money.
